What is the Hand Gym Challenge?

The hand gym challenge was created after some study in to the impact screens are having on childrens handwriting capabilities. This isn't a particularly new study, but I didn't realise the scale of the issue until I started to investigate it myself.

From the moment your baby is born they start working on wiring their brains and developing their fine motor skills. They get used to gripping, shaking a rattle, pincer grip etc. Modern day life has put screens in to childrens' hands early on and researchers from the University of Toronto found that by 18 months, 20% of children use handheld devices for half an hour a day*.

Fine motor skills are crucial to every day life, and more so for handwriting. Over the last 10 years there has been a decline in children are starting school without the strength in their hands that will enable them to hold a pencil for a number of reasons but the most obvious - screens.

Our hand gym challenge aims to mobilise, strengthen and boost creativity in your little ones. Giving them the skills they need to succeed.

Why is this important? Developing fine motor skills in early childhood predicts future success in writing, reading and math.
