Time Flies When You're Having a PRESCHOOLER

How is it that my oldest has one year left before he starts school? It feels like only yesterday I was in the midst of potty training, while juggling a sudden outbreak of chicken pox in the house and a 2 week old newborn.

Are you in the same boat as me? Is your little one starting school next year? It's a big milestone, isn't it? The end of one chapter and the beginning of another. And while it's a time of excitement and anticipation, it can also be a little overwhelming.

But don't worry, you've got plenty of time to prepare. In fact, now that September is here, you have a whole year to get ready.

Here are a few things you can do to help your child transition smoothly into school life:

  • Start practicing basic skills: This includes things like holding a pencil correctly, cutting paper, and colouring within the lines. These fine motor skills are essential for schoolwork. Try threading pasta on shoe laces, placing dots on letters or numbers, tracing numbers and letters with your finger. We've got a handy Fine Motor Bundle if you're looking to boost your littles ones skills.

  • Encourage independence: Help your child learn to dress themselves, pack their own bag, and complete simple tasks. This will boost their self-confidence and make the transition to school easier. It's amazing how many teachers I've spoken to that say one of the thing kids most struggle with when coming to school is sitting on a mat or dressing themselves.

  • Read together regularly: Reading is a great way to develop language skills, vocabulary, and imagination. It's also a wonderful bonding activity. The stats on reading sell themselves... if you read 5 minutes a day to a child they will be exposed to 282,000 words per year. If you read to them for 20 minutes a day that number increases to 1.8 million words per year.

  • Play games that promote learning: There are plenty of games and activities that can help your child learn important skills like counting, colors, shapes, and letters, and if you're struggling to find some why not check out our bundles in the Crafty Case Section of our shop. These are designed for you to have a sample of our games and help boost your little ones development.

And here's a little secret: The Original Crafty Case can help with all of this! Our creative kits are designed to develop fine motor skills, creativity, and concentration – all of which are essential for school success.

So, start planning now and make the transition to school a breeze! Oh and don't forget to take as many photos as you can of this last year. I can only imagine my photo reel on my phone will be having significantly less photos of farm animals, selfies of only his nose or left ear and us out and about.
